Chorionic villus sampling is a type of prenatal diagnosis that is usually performed at 10-12 weeks of the pregnancy. A sample of the chorion (placenta) is taken and tested for chromosomal abnormalities to diagnose the fetus. Note that placental cells are tested, and not fetal cells (as in amniocentesis).
