๐Ÿ“Š Story Snapshot ๐Ÿ‘ฉ Age: 37
๐Ÿ“† Years trying: 5
๐Ÿงฌ Embryo: Day 6 CC
๐Ÿงช Retrievals: 3
๐Ÿฃ Transfers: 5
๐Ÿ’Š Diagnosis: Unexplained infertility
๐Ÿ“ˆ Outcome: 20 weeks pregnant with a baby boy

After 5 years I finally fell pregnant with embryo, a day 6 embryo with a C grade.

Over the years I tried everything from acupuncture, so many different โ€œfertility dietsโ€, a mountain of supplements, exercise (but not too much) and so many blood tests. Then, 4 years ago, we contacted a fertility clinic and went through all our fertility testing to be told I had a high follicle count and my husband had a high sperm count, and the advice was to keep trying naturally.

A year later we still were not pregnant and started the process of IVF. But sadly what I thought was going to be the solution to all this didnโ€™t turn out that way.

We ended up having 2 egg collections and neither produced anything more than an embryo with a C grade. Our first cycle resulted in 2 failed transfers and 1 not surviving the thawing. Our second egg collections resulted in only 1 grade C and 1 grade D โ€“ out of 18 eggs and 15 fertilising. So we transferred both and they both failed.

After this, we decided to take a break as the years of trying and failing had taken a huge toll on us both. I realised Iโ€™d been so unhappy for so long, it felt like Iโ€™d been living under a dark cloud. I started to try and heal, throwing out all the supplements, stopped the diets and started to live.

Iโ€™d spent so much time not planning anything โ€œjust in case!โ€ that I stopped socialising and enjoying life that so much time had just passed me by. I started to accept that having a baby wasnโ€™t going to happen but life could still be great.

Then earlier this year we decided to try one last time, we transferred 2 grade C day 6 embryos. This time I had no expectations, but somehow after 5 years I got a positive! Iโ€™m now 20 weeks pregnant with 1 baby boy.

What would you say to someone whoโ€™s going through what you went through?

โ€œRemember โ€” there is life outside of fertility and donโ€™t allow it to consume you. Book the holiday, have the night out. I still donโ€™t understand how it worked this time, with such a low graded, low developing embryo, but it did. The only thing I can contribute it to is that this time I went into it happy and mentally so much stronger.

โ€” Rosie from Edinburgh
