I started my fertility treatment journey when I was 36/37 years old. I started with 2 cycles of IUI, the first one resulting in a chemical (and emotionally painful) pregnancy and the second one failed to get any implantation. Due to my age, I embarked on ivf once the IUI did not yield any results.
With the extraction of the embryos (12 of them), about half showed some progress but only 2 made it to full blastocyst. Again due to age and probably other factors, my blastocysts were graded as a C. Definitely disappointed with all these odds against me but I just went in with the mindset of “expect the worst but hope for the best”.
My husband and I were pleasantly surprised that the blood test revealed that I was pregnant. At each phase, I was a little stressed as it feels too good to be true.
I’m happy to say that this first blastocyst has resulted in my very active and healthy 22 month old son while I became a mother at 39.
Currently I have a grade C day 7 blastocyst in me. I’m not sure of the outcome now but I hope my story inspires those who are on this journey, including myself, that miracles do happen.
