UWOF #25: Success after 8 IVF rounds and immune treatments

After 8 IVF cycles, multiple miscarriages, and Hashimotoโ€™s disease, this parent achieved a successful pregnancy at age 42 using untested embryos and aggressive immune treatment โ€” including IVIG, neupogen, steroids and hydroxychloroquine.

๐Ÿ’ฌ These stories are part of the Uterine Wall of Fame โ€” a growing collection of real IVF success stories submitted by patients who faced challenging scenarios like poor-quality embryos or low AMH. The UWOF is a project by Remembryo / Embryoman, a site that highlights new IVF research. All UWOF posts are free to access (no subscription required).

๐Ÿ“Š Story Snapshot ๐Ÿ‘ฉ Age: 41
๐Ÿ“† Years trying: 5
๐Ÿงฌ Embryo: 2x Day 2 + 1x Day 5 (untested)
๐Ÿงช Retrievals: 8
๐Ÿฃ Transfers: Not stated
๐Ÿ’Š Diagnosis: Immune-related issues, Recurrent pregnancy loss, Thyroid or autoimmune condition
๐Ÿ“ˆ Outcome: Live birth (now 3.5 years old)

We started trying to conceive when I was 36 and my husband was 43. We did 4 rounds of IUI and had a chemical pregnancy during the last round. We then did 8 rounds of IVF before we had success. We had to fight autoimmune hashimotos, extremely high DNA fragmentation, high NK cells and high cytokines, implantation failure despite numerous euploids, recurrent miscarriages of euploid and untested embryos and consultants who did not believe in immune treatment.

We went abroad, we tried different clinics & finally we found a clinic which closely monitored, did IVIG, neupogen washes, steroids, hydroxychloroquine, viagra to improve lining, high dose progesterone etc etc. We threw the kitchen sink at our successful cycle and did a split transfer of 2x fresh day 2 embryos plus a frozen day 5 embryo โ€” all untested and we got success! I was 42 at the time and used my own eggs.

During pregnancy I was high risk of 2nd trimester loss and needed very high dose progesterone & an emergency cervical suture and bed rest!

Our child is truly a miracle from God and a miracle of scienceโ€ฆ

What would you say to someone whoโ€™s going through what you went through?

โ€œIVF is tough โ€“ whether it is one cycle or 10.
Keep fighting your corner. Keep reading the latest research and keep up to date. Challenge when you need to. Take a step back and grieve when you need to.
Be kind to yourself and your partner
I learnt something new about my body and my journey with each failed cycle which eventually helped us have success.
Good luckโ€
